An electric plenum heater is 100 percent efficient - so you get value from every kilowatt-hour (kWh) purchased. The plenum heater is a safe and clean heating alternative for a home or building. The plenum heater is installed in the hot air plenum of an existing fossil fuel forced air furnace, both utilizing the same thermostat, ductwork and fan. In most cases, a plenum heater can be installed in conjunction with a central air conditioning system or a heat pump.
- Dual Heat Installation: The plenum heater is installed as the primary heat source. It is installed in the hot air plenum of a fuel oil, propane, or natural gas forced air furnace, which is used as the backup heating system for this off-peak installation.
- All-Electric Heat Installation: The plenum heater is installed as the ONLY heat source. The existing fuel oil, propane, or natural gas forced air furnace does not function properly anymore and is not considered an adequate backup heating system. However, the plenum heater is installed in the hot air plenum of the existing fossil fuel forced air furnace and utilizes the same thermostat, ductwork and fan. A plenum heater can also be used with a heat pump to complement this high efficiency heating/cooling system.
