Journeyman Lineworker or Apprentice Lineworker

Northern Plains Electric Cooperative
Based in Maddock, ND

Purpose

Journeyman/Apprentice Lineworker is responsible for building, maintaining, and repairing overhead and underground electric distribution lines in a safe and efficient manner within accepted operations standards. 

This is a full-time position with benefits based in Maddock, ND. Position is hourly based on a 40-hour work week with the possibility of overtime.

Supervision

Works under the direction of the Line Foreman.

Education / Experience

Apprentice certification from accredited electrical line worker program with a minimum of 6,000 hours logged in the apprenticeship program or a Journeyman Lineworker certification. A valid driver’s license and commercial driver’s license permit required. 

Essential and Physical Functions

All duties shall be performed while maintaining and enforcing a very high standard of safety and workmanship. Majority of work occurs outside.  Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull or move up to and not limited to 75 pounds in weight.  Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist and reach.  Climbing poles or structures and operates power tools and equipment as needed to perform the tasks required for the position.

Essential Duties

  • Installing, troubleshooting, maintaining, electrical overhead and underground facilities of various voltages in both energized and de-energized conditions.
  • Other duties may be staking, loading, hauling, setting, framing, stringing, sagging, connecting, trenching, plowing, terminating, tree trimming, repairing, inspecting, locating of electrical facilities, company physical facilities and equipment. 
  • Maintain and solicit field, equipment, safety data and information.

Billing and Member Service Supervisor

Northern Plains Electric Cooperative
Based in Cando, ND

Purpose

The Billing and Member Service Supervisor drives the success of the cooperative’s billing, payments and member inquiries. This role ensures the accuracy and efficiency of all billing processes while providing exceptional service to our members. The supervisor will coordinate and perform daily operations, resolving complex issues, ensuring accuracy and efficiency to maintain reliable, member-focused service that upholds the cooperative’s standards and mission.

Essential Duties

  • Responsible for ensuring that member billing, and all related documents, is accurately processed, delivered, and maintained in accordance with cooperative policies and procedures.
  • Analysis and review of member usage and bills to ensure accurate billing.
  • Coordinates and directs the monthly collection and disconnection activities.
  • Prepare statements for members and processes meters read for all accounts.
  • Generate revenue report and reconcile month end receivable balances.
  • Prepare daily, monthly and year-end reports regarding member payments.
  • Process daily payments and bank deposits efficiently and accurately and ensure accurate accounting of transactions
  • Reporting and analyzing data across various systems to drive process improvements.
  • Serve as the front line of communication for member and public interactions.
  • Demonstrate strong customer advocacy skills
  • Provide prompt and courteous service via telephone, email and in-person.
  • Cross training with other cooperative departments.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must be self-motivated, detail oriented, organized, with the ability to prioritize both short- and long-term objectives.
  • Must be able to work both independently and with others maintaining an emphasis on attention to detail and accuracy of work. 
  • Capable of completing numerous tasks and job functions with frequent interruptions.
  • Must have the ability to communicate in a courteous, professional manner when working with the members and employees.
  • Must have a strong problem-solving skillset. 
  • Good computer skills, proficient in Windows software with the ability to learn new software as needed.
  • First Aid and CPR certification or the ability to be certified is required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Education / Experience

  • Associates degree or higher in Business or Office Administration or related degree is desired.
  • Two or more years’ job experience in customer service.
  • Experience in utility industry is a plus.
  • Experience using personal computers and learning new software systems is mandatory.
  • Experience requirements may be adjusted if the appropriate formal education and applicable work experience are demonstrated.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time position based in the Cooperative’s Cando office.
  • Hours associated with this position are normally 8 a.m.– 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday.
  • Additional hours may be required during emergencies or when workload requires.
  • Travel is required to attend training, workshops, meetings and other cooperative activities.
  • Infrequent overnight travel may be necessary.

Meter and Load Management Technician

Northern Plains Electric Cooperative
Based in Carrington, ND

Purpose

Metering and Load Management Technicians drive the success of the cooperative’s load management and metering initiatives. You will serve as the expert, taking the lead on both the technical hardware and system software components of all deployments. In this dynamic role, you will collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including employees at all levels, members, contractors, and installers, balancing your time effectively between office-based tasks and in-field activities.

Essential Duties

  • Installation and maintenance of metering, load management, and communications equipment.
  • Tests, services, maintains, and calibrates metering equipment per specifications.
  • Field inspections of load management and meter installations.
  • Troubleshoot metering and load management equipment.
  • Reporting and analyzing data across various systems to drive improvements.
  • Utilizing various software platforms to monitor the cooperatives metering and load management systems.
  • Coordinate and work with installers, or members to provide guidance on cooperative procedures, policies and rates.
  • Investigation of member issues including usage, power quality, distributed energy resources, etc.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for cooperative metering and load management programs.

Qualifications

  • Must have a strong troubleshooting skillset. 
  • Ability to understand technical information and translate it to the application at hand.
  • Ability to understand basic electrical theory and interpret wiring schematics.
  • Good computer skills, proficient in Windows software with the ability to learn new software as needed.
  • Understand use of various measurement tools such as multimeter, power quality testers, meter calibration equipment, etc.
  • Knowledge of cellular and power line carrier AMI systems is a plus.
  • Knowledge of residential, commercial, farm site and irrigation electrical systems is a plus.
  • First Aid and CPR certification or the ability to be certified is required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Education / Experience

  • Preferred two or more years’ job experience in a related field working with meters, metering practices and/or load management systems.
  • Preferred one or more of the following:
    • Technical degree in electrical or electronics
    • Journeyman or master electrician certification
  • Experience in utility industry is a plus.
  • Experience using personal computers and learning new software systems is mandatory
  • Experience requirements may be adjusted if the appropriate formal education and applicable work experience are demonstrated.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time position based in the cooperative’s Carrington office.
  • Hours associated with this position are normally 8 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday.
  • Additional hours may be required during emergencies or when workload requires.
  • Position will require work to be performed both inside and outside under a variety of weather conditions.
  • Travel throughout the cooperative’s service territory is required.
  • Infrequent overnight travel may be necessary.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Requires frequent lifting up to 50lbs and installing and removing meters, meter bases, instrumentation, and other equipment. Heavier objects lifted with proper equipment following safe lifting practices.
  • Occasionally required to twist, lift, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and handle materials.
  • Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, fine manipulation and feeling.
  • Occasionally working from ladder or bucket truck.
  • Frequently identifying and reading color-coded schematics.
